How to Choose Your Accessories

DC Power Supply & AC Power Cable

24-75VDC is required for ClearPath bus power. Teknic recommends 75VDC for maximum motor power.
ClearPath can run from power supplies up to 90VDC, but will protectively shutdown at 94VDC, so a 75VDC power supply gives you better design margin in this regard.
The Teknic IPC-3 and IPC-5 power supplies are designed specifically for the unique requirements of servo control- they smoothly handle regenerated energy and large peak loads. See our article for further technical details & architectural comparisons.
One IPC power supply can typically power up to 6 ClearPath motors (application dependent - see FAQs and/or Accessories video).

Power Distribution Strip

The POWER4-STRIP is an optional, 6-port breakout board/terminal block that distributes the main motor power for up to five ClearPath motors.
One of the six 2-pin Sabre connectors would function as the input connector for power from the Main Motor Power Supply (24 - 75 Vdc is required) while the remaining five connectors would provide output power to any attached ClearPath motors.
Use the Power Distribution Cable (PC-SBR-72) to connect the IPC-5 power supply with the POWER4-STRIP.
This breakout board option is generally appropriate for machines with more than 2 motors that don't require logic power backup. Note that the IPC-5 power supply natively has two motor power connectors so up to 2 motors can be directly connected to the IPC-5 without the breakout board.

The POWER4-HUB is an optional 4 port breakout board that distributes main DC bus power for up to 4 ClearPath motors and also provides logic power backup. With logic power backup, if bus power is removed (e.g., upon an E-stop), ClearPath will still communicate and monitor its position. So, upon restoring bus power, ClearPath can automatically return to its last commanded position.
The POWER4-HUB requires 24VDC (in addition to main motor bus power). Use the CPM-CABLE-M2P2P-120 cable to route 24VDC to the POWER4-HUB.
Use the Power Distribution Cable (PC-SBR-72) to connect the IPC-5 power supply with the POWER4-HUB.

This cable connects DC bus power directly to a ClearPath motor from either the Main Motor Power Supply (e.g. IPC-5), the POWER4-HUB, or the POWER4-STRIP Power Distribution Boards.
The Motor Power Cable requires a 4-pin Molex Mini-fit Jr. connector on the ClearPath end and a 2-pin Sabre connector on the DC power supply end (if using a Teknic IPC-5 power supply or a POWER4-STRIP/HUB power distribution board).
Teknic offers a plug-and-play 10 foot cable and a 55 foot cable option, or cables can be manufactured with the proper materials and assembly tools.

I/O Hub

ClearPath-IP motors use 2-axis and 4-axis sync hubs to simplify wiring and synchronize motors with sub-200-nanosecond precision. These hubs also make it easy to wire up home sensors, limit switches, and other motion-specific I/O to your ClearPath-IP motors. When upgraded to an I/O-HUB, customers can (in addition to retaining the sync hub functionality) configure the inputs to be general-purpose digital or analog inputs, and gain access to additional features, such as an external encoder input, an analog output, and more. Controller Cable

This cable connects your ClearPath-IP motor to your I/O Hub.
The controller cable requires an 8-pin Molex Mini-fit connector on both ends and can be ordered directly from Teknic.

Spring Applied, Power-Off Brakes

Power-off (or fail-safe) brakes are used in applications that require the axis to stay in position, even if the machine loses power or is turned off (this is common for vertical applications or when additional safety measures are required).
Apply 24V to disengage the brake and allow motion.

USB Setup Cable

To configure a ClearPath-IP system, customers need to configure both the motor and the I/O Hub.
The USB Type-A to Type-Micro-B cable connects a Windows PC to the USB port on the rear of ClearPath-IP motor body for initial motor setup and diagnostics using the ClearPath ClearView Software. Using the same software, customers connect a USB Type-A to Type-B cable to an I/O Hub to configure it.
After setup, these cables are typically disconnected for normal application operation (but they can be used for diagnostic purposes).
These cables can be purchased from Teknic or third parties. The USB cables should be "fully rated" cables (shielded and designed for high-speed communication—not a charging cable—which can be true of USB Type-A to Type-Micro-B cables in particular).
