A Letter from Adapta Robotics: 10 Years of Device Testing with ClearPath

Adapta Robotics is an innovative OEM in the field of automated device testing, specialized in creating robots that evaluate the performance of touchscreens and physical interfaces for large manufacturers like Nissan and Zebra. Their flagship robot, MATT, is a robust solution designed to simulate natural human interactions, such as tapping, swiping, and pinching, on devices ranging from smartphones to automotive infotainment systems. To achieve the rigorous speed and precision required for continuously running stress tests without failure, Adapta relies on Teknic’s ClearPath-SD servo systems to drive the robot’s motion.

We’ve been using Teknic motors in our device-testing robots for close to a decade, with robots operating all around the world. Some of them have been running continuously for more than a couple of years without any measurable performance decrease. That kind of reliability makes a huge difference when you’re building robots that are expected to work day in and day out.

To give a bit of context and background, when we first developed our products, we used stepper motors, which came with downsides such as frequent recalibration, higher noise, as well as limitations in stability and closed-loop control precision. Teknic turned out to be the ideal plug-and-play replacement for our existing stepper setups, delivering a major improvement in both speed and accuracy with minimal integration friction.

Because the motors have been so dependable, we’ve since standardized their use across multiple products and applications, including a few that were a bit more unconventional or, that seemed tricky to pull off. Even in those edge cases, Teknic’s support team consistently stepped in to help us calibrate the system for high performance in non-standard environments. They are easy to work with, quick to respond, and genuinely focused on helping customers succeed.

One moment that really stood out was our very first calibration call. At the time, we were a small startup with only a few motors in use, so we expected a fairly standard “small customer” experience. Instead, Teknic treated us like a top-tier partner from day one, giving us their best support and taking the time to make sure we were set up for success. That level of attention and professionalism made an immediate impression, and it’s been consistent ever since.

We also want to mention the ClearPath software. In practice, it’s proven to be truly user-centric, while clearly grounded in deep motion-control expertise. More than once, it’s saved us time during setup, troubleshooting, and optimization.
